I grew up near the beach in wonderful Santa Barbara and Ventura counties. I was first exposed to classical music by my dad who played his LP's throughout the house early morning every Saturday - even before cartoons began. (Beethoven's 7th Symphony, Schubert's Unfinished Symphony, Gershwin's Rhapsody in Blue, and others). When I had the opportunity in 4th grade to take band - it was an easy sell. I've been playing the French horn ever since.
I've earned a Bachelor of Music degree in Horn Performance from CSU Northridge, a Bachelor of Music degree in Music Education from the University of Utah, and a Master of Music degree in Instrumental Conducting from the American Band College of Sam Houston State University. While as a member of the CSUN Symphony, I had a great adventure performing throughout Eastern Europe just shortly after the fall of the Eastern Bloc. It's one of the countless performance experiences that make up some of my most vivid and fondest memories.
I've performed with numerous community bands, orchestras, brass quintets, theatrical productions, and one funk & soul band throughout the past 30 years.
I've taught music at Bear River since 2004. Prior to that, I was the middle school and high school band director in Coquille, Oregon. I believe everyone has a certain level of aptitude, or natural ability, in music. And that endeavoring to develop that aptitude through the study and performance of music enhances and improves every other part of our lives.
My beautiful family consists of my wife, Susie, and our four daughters.
When not music-ing, I enjoy running, hiking, and doing stuff with my family.
