EXCUSED ABSENCES

To excuse an absence, you must call our Student Services Specialist, Lorita Reidel at extension 4805
 
A student shall be excused from school only for the following reasons specified in the Education Code:
  • Illness
  • Quarantine under direction of a county or city health officer
  • Medical services which cannot be reasonably scheduled outside of school hours
  • Funeral for a member of the immediate family
  • Jury duty
  • Exclusion for failure to present evidence or waiver of immunization
  • When the student is the custodial parent of a child with a medical appointment
 
 
Justifiable reasons that must be pre-approved by the Principal or designee include, but not limited to:
  • Court appearance
  • Religious observance
  • Religious retreat
  • An employment conference
  • College visits not to exceed 3 per year
  • "Other" appealed through Principal/Designee
 
The Education Code does not allow us to excuse absences for personal reasons.

ATTENDANCE POLICIES

  • A student who is absent from class 5 or more days will receive a letter stating the mandates from the California Ed Code

  • Upon the next absence subsequent to receiving the first letter regarding attendance, a second letter will be sent and a parent conference will be scheduled and an attendance contract issued

  • Upon the next absence after being given the opportunity to participate in a parent conference the student will receive a third letter indicating that they will be referred to the Student Attendance Review Board

  • Absences related to school sponsored field trips, athletics, or other school related activities do not apply under this policy

  • Students will work independently with their individual teachers to make up missed assignments.  Make up work is at the discretion of the teachers

  • Homework can be requested from the office on the third day of absence only if the student is unable to get assignments from classmates and will not be returning to school the next day.  Parents/guardians should call before 10:00 a.m.  Homework will be ready to pick up between 2:00 and 3:00 p.m. the next day.
  • All routine medical and dental appointments should be made after the end of the school day

  • In order to participate in co-curricular or extracurricular activities, student must be present in school on the day of the activity.  If the activity occurs on the weekend, the student must be in attendance on that Friday before.  Athletic exceptions must be verified in advance by District Administration.  It is important that students assume responsibility for missing classes.

  • Students need to check in with their teachers before leaving class.  Participation in rallies, choir practice, band setup, etc., is at the teacher’s discretion
