Theatrical Dance 1
Grade Levels: 9-12

Graduation Requirement: Visual and Performing Art - UC/CSU 'F'
Beginning Dance classes (Dance 1) are offered to any currently enrolled B.R. student. No previous dance training or
experience is required. Students will learn basic skills and develop a strong dance foundation. Students will get to
experience jazz, ballet, hip hop and contemporary dance techniques. Students who want performance experience have
the opportunity to participate in our fall and spring dance productions, but performance participation is not required at
the beginning level.

Physical Education Dance 1
Grade Levels: 9-12

Prerequisites: None
Graduation Requirement: Yes (2nd year PE credit)
In this class, students will use their creativity and improve their dance technique including coordination, rhythm, memory, strength, imagination, and awareness of standard steps and a variety of dance styles. Using an interdisciplinary approach, emphasis is placed on developing basic dance skills, aesthetic and cultural appreciation, and an increase in self-esteem. During the third and fourth quarters, focus will be on preparing choreography for public performance. This course can be taken for PE credit in grades 10, 11, or 12. Enrolled freshmen will receive Performing Arts credit only, as all freshmen must take PE. Note: Students may be required to purchase materials.

Prerequisites: Open by Audition Only
Graduation Requirement: Visual and Performing Art - UC/CSU 'F'
Intermediate Dance class (Dance 2) includes training in multiple styles of dance, requiring a higher skill level and quicker pacing than beginning dance. Admittance into intermediate dance is by audition only for new students and permission from Ms. Blaney for current or past dance students. Intermediate dancers are required to perform in our fall and spring dance shows. There may be a few extra weekend rehearsals needed to prepare for the productions throughout the school year.
Physical Education Dance 2

Repetition for Credit: Yes
Prerequisites: Yes, Audition
Graduation Requirement: Yes (2nd year PE credit)
This class continues the development of basic dance skills on an advanced level. More emphasis is placed on technique, performance, and choreography. Students are expected to participate in auditions and performances in and out of class and will complete a portfolio of their skills and repertory. Students will also be expected to complete written assignments. Note: Students may be required to purchase materials.

Theatrical Dance Performance Ensemble builds upon the coursework and technique of Advanced Dance. Performance
Ensemble will include rehearsals with multiple professional guest choreographers, conditioning classes in Pilates or yoga, student choreography projects, auditions and performance participation for multiple productions throughout the year. Students will be required to attend additional rehearsals. Students will complete a yearlong portfolio project of research assignments related to career pathways in dance and the arts, performance critiques, and dance teaching methods.
