BR Voices

An all-grade mixed chorus (SATB) where students will sing a variety of literature from all stylistic periods. There will be many performance opportunities throughout the year. BR Voices will hold several performances including the “Sounds of the Season”, “Fantasy of Stars”, and “River Song” concerts and the Arts Department Showcase. BR Voices also performs at the Golden Empire (or similar) Music Festival and often undertakes a performance tour in the Spring. Emphasis will be placed on fundamentals of vocal technique, sight singing, music theory, and history. All members of this ensemble are expected to practice daily outside of class and be listening regularly to choral recordings.

Concert/Symphonic Band

The Concert Band class offers the students an opportunity to learn to play a woodwind, brass, or percussion instrument with no prior experience needed. The students and the teacher will collaborate to chose one instrument from the woodwind family (flute, oboe, clarinet, saxophone, bassoon), brass instruments (trumpet, french horn, trombone, euphonium, tuba), or percussion (drums & melodic percussion).  The goal of the class is to give the students the fundamental skills needed to continue their development in the Symphonic Band. Students will have the opportunity to perform music in various concerts and professionally adjudicated festivals during the second semester. 


Music Lab (Guitar)

Grade Levels: 9-12

Prerequisites: None
Graduation Requirement:Elective-VPA/CTE/World Language 
 
Each student will realize that they can be a guitar player. This course serves as an introduction to the instrument and will provide students with an instant access to making music on the guitar. Focus points will be strumming and rhythms, reading music, improvising, and beginning songwriting.
