Environmental Science is a course dedicated to understanding the interactions between Earth’s natural systems (biosphere, hydrosphere, atmosphere, geosphere) and the demands placed on them by the human population. Resource use, conservation, and abuse are common topics in the news and at the ballot box, especially in California. The course will begin with a historical perspective and a brief overview of government agencies and policymaking. An emphasis will be placed on the multifaceted nature of environmental issues and the role of community members in decision making. Over the next four units, students will explore scientific concepts and patterns in Ecology; Resource (Soil, Water, Air, Agriculture, Mineral) Management; Energy Production, Use and Conservation; Waste Production and Management.  This course will utilize UDL instructional practices to make the content accessible to a variety of learning styles and abilities. Additionally, student success skills of organization, participation, and retention will be developed.
